I am excited to share that this year, our 4th grade curriculum will address the full spectrum of students by incorporating project based learning, where they will learn to collaborate effectively in small groups. Emphasis will be teaching students how to become critical thinkers while being encouraged to ask questions and become the agents of change. Our main focus will be to create a safe and respectful environment for learning to take place. Students are empowered to take on jobs and responsibilities that help each and every learner to achieve their greatest potential while creating a sense of community. Students learn to self advocate and understand empathy and respect for themselves and others through our ToolBox curriculum, Growth Mindset and Mindfulness. Academically, we will be diving into History, PBL projects, Science, writing, reading, math, physical fitness, art, Growth Mindset, Mindfulness, VTS (visual teaching strategies) and Of course, our “Maker Mondays” which is the highlight of the week. Makers is when students become the innovators of their own creations while collaborating, communicating, negotiating, and accomplishing final projects to take home or out into our community. I am not a big homework teacher. However, All students will be expected to read for at least 20 minutes a day, 4 days a week. They might have a math page from their math workbooks to complete on Mon-Thurs. If they didn’t finish it in class. There will be times when your child will be doing some research out of class but most projects will be given plenty of class time to work on these. Our Reflex for math is always a good site to go to for extra practice with multiplication and division. I would suggest 10-15 minutes a night of practice to help them be successful with these facts. All students are enrolled in it and may access it outside of school. Each student has access to their own Chromebook in class where they participate in research, presentations, typing, math, finance, and coding, just to name a few of the great learning websites. My personal goal as a teacher is to encourage students to be the best that they can be by embracing a sense of curiosity and wonder of the world.I am grateful to be a part of our wonderful school and to have the opportunity to share my strengths and hope for others, especially our future generations!!I’m looking forward to having a great year! Please call the school if you need to talk for any emergencies or feel free to email me at [email protected]. Sincerely,Jamie Perham
